Pirkanmaa Wellbeing Services County Archives Data from Retiring Lifecare- and Mediatri Systems to Kanta Using Automation
The automated solution will extract data from 12 databases within the county’s old Lifecare- and Mediatri systems, structure it to meet Kela’s requirements, and transfer the processed data either to the Kanta archive or to the county’s new systems. The project will be delivered as a SaaS solution provided through Istekki.
Pirkanmaa aims to complete Mediatri’s achieving project by April 2026 and Lifecare’s – at latest – by June 2026. Finishing the archiving will enable the county to retire the legacy systems and finalize its system renewal.
“Completing system renewals is critical to reducing workload and managing costs across the wellbeing services counties. It is essential that counties fully understand their options for migrating data from legacy systems and ensure their project partner is incentivized to stay on schedule. Equally important is selecting a partner with proven expertise and practical experience in data migration best practices — for example, ensuring compliance with Kela’s Kanta transfer quality standards”, says Juha Nieminen, Head of Healthcare at Digital Workforce.
“For us at Pirkanmaa, ensuring that migration projects are executed with high quality and delivered on schedule is a priority. Delays and the prolonged use of legacy systems pose significant cost risks and place a burden not only on our IT professionals but also on our service operations. Digital Workforce and Atostek, as partners of Istekki, bring extensive experience in similar data migrations and a clear incentive to stay on schedule — giving us a solid foundation to begin the collaboration with confidence. Leveraging automation is essential to completing these transfers within the target timeframe”, says Aki Jokinen, ICT Services Director at Pirkanmaa Wellbeing Services County.
“Our solution – specifically developed for Kanta transfers – has enabled the flawless migration of tens of millions of documents to Kela’s archive. Data extraction is performed using robotic process automation (RPA), ensuring speed, accuracy, and system-independence. Atostek is responsible for data conversion and transfer through its ERA service. The solution is flexible and compatible with all source systems — allowing data to be transferred both to the Kanta archive and to our clients’ new systems”, explains Miika Parvio, Business Director of ERA Services at Atostek.
